From plastisol to package

How a bait is poured.

Every bait starts as clear plastisol in a pot on the bench. Five stations later it's bagged, and the batch number on the pack tells you which tray it came from.

  1. 01

    Melt

Heat the plastisol to 350°F and stir until it turns from milky to clear.

  2. 02

    Mix

Add the color, the flake, and the salt. The mix decides the sink rate and how the bait fishes.

  3. 03

    Pour

Hand-pour into aluminum molds. A slow, steady pour keeps the bubbles out of the tails.

  4. 04

    Cure

Cool, de-mold, and let the baits rest flat so they hold their shape in the bag.

  5. 05

    Scent & bag

Garlic or crawfish scent, then counted into packs by hand and stamped with the batch.

Field notes

Where they've been getting bit.

“The Wheeler Stick on a wacky rig saved a slow day on Champlain. That shimmy on the fall is unreal, and the salt keeps them holding on.”
Dale R.Lake Champlain, VT · May · smallmouth
“Punched the Punch Bug through matted grass all summer. It glides into the shade and they eat it on the drop every time.”
Marisol T.Lake Okeechobee, FL · July · largemouth
